The University in Osijek was established in 1975 and since 1990 bears the current name. It is composed today of 11 individual faculties, an academy and a number of other organizations.

The Faculty uses an emblem with blue stylized column capitel and an "arrow of growth" and green minuscule initials EFOS. Previously used emblem consisted of a circular seal depicting the Faculty building with inscribed names of the University and Faculty above and below and with the year 1961. No symbols are prescribed in the statutes. No flag reported.
The Centre for Economy Studies was established in Osijek in 1959, becoming the School of Economy and in 1961. the Faculty of Economics, that was until 1975 a part of the University of Zagreb, and since 1975 a part of the Osijek University.

The Faculty uses a number of emblems based on common pattern consisting of four blue outlined lozenges, top red, bottom blue and a withe one on each side. If large enough, they may be inscribed with initials ETFO. An emblem depicting initials ETFOS, the first three letters blue and two last blue outlined white with the four lozenges in top right, is also used. The flag in use is vartical white flag with the basic lozenge emblem with initials in the centre and the blue Faculty name in three rows in the bottom.
The study of electromechanical engineering started in Osijek in 1978 as an interfaculty programme. The current Faculty was established in 1990.

The Faculty uses an emblem consisting of a square divided into nine imaginary fields, the top and left joined into a single gray element, the bottom right four fields being white, yellow, purple and light gray. This is based vaguely on the previous emblem of the Faculty of Teacher Education. No flag recorded.
The education of theachers in Osijek started in 1893 with the establishment of the Royal Male Teachers School (Kraljevska muška učiteljska škola). The Teacher Education School becomes in 1961 the Pedagogy Academy (Pedagoška akademija), and in turn in 1977 the Pedagogy Faculty (Pedagoški fakultet) and in 1998 the Teacher High Education School (Visoka učiteljska škola). Since 1999 it has subsidiary studies in Slavonski Brod and since 2003 in Vukovar. It becomes the Faculty of Teacher Education (Učiteljski fakultet) in 2005 and eventually renamed to the current name in 2014.
The Faculty used a circular seal shaped emblem with minuscule initials UF dividing the circle into gray top, yellow bottom and purple right part, encicled with the gray Faculty name and a concentric circle. It was used also without the outer circle and the inscription. Prior to the adoption of this emblem, the Faculty used a number of various emblems. One was in a circular shield shape with depiction of the Faculty building within with two concentric circles and the University and the Faculty name between them (cf. the Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences). A rectanguler version of the same contents was also in use. And finally, a stylized initials UFOS might have been the oldest among them.

The faculty uses an emblem consisting of two letter F's, one orange and the other inverted red and with a rectangular orange dot between them. The University name is inscribed black to the left top and the Faculty name to the left bottom.

The Study of Philosophy in Osijek was established by Franciscans in 1707 (until 1780), but the modern academic history begins with the establishment of the Academy of Pedagogy in 1961, that became the Faculty of Pedagogy in 1977 and in 2003 the current Faculty.

The Faculty uses an emblem consisting of green bordered white stylized initials GF. The flag in use is a light green vertical flag with the emblem in the top part and underneath a blue fimbriated white transversal stripe with the blue emblem of the University between the blue inscribed University name above it and the county name below and between the stripe and the emblem inscribed white the Faculty name.
A department of the Zagreb Technical College was estanlished in Osijek in 1967, that in 1976 became the Hight Technical Civil Engineering School as a member of the Osijek University. The Faculty of Civil Engineering was established in 1983, as a joint units of the Osijek University and the Zagreb Civil Engineering Institute until 1991 when it becomes an independent member of the Osijek University.

The Faculty has a "coat of arms" depicting a book, a cross and a symbol of Holy Ghost. The book is purple with a gray square depicting white vertical stripe with a gray cross and a white highly stylized dove. In the bottom right corner of the gray panel is the year 1806 inscribed black. No flag recorded.
In 1806 the Diocese established the Episcopal Lyceum (Lyceum episcopale) becoming a gymnasium in 1850. In 1931 the school became the High Theological College (Visoka bogoslovna škola). It was affiliated to the Catholic Faculty of Theology in Zagreb in 1987. With the return of the Faculty in the Zagreb University system, the College becomes the Teology in Đakovo (Teologija u Đakovu) in 1994. In 2004 the Teology was raised to the Faculy level, as a member of the Osijek University.

The Faculty has a "coat of arms" composed of blue stylized initials MF with a red element, forming paritally the stylized medical symbol of the Aesculapian rod with a snake. The emblem is prescribed to be topped with the University name and the Faculty name is set below, although various position of the inscriptions are found in use. The flag is white with the "coat of arms" including the inscriptions in its centre.
The Study of Medicine was established in Osijek in 1979 as dislocated study of the Zagreb School of Medicine. The faculty was eventually established in 1998.

The Faculty has an emblem of green stylized Erlenmeyer flask (type of laboratory glass equipment) from which a corn ear is issuing, however, the design was modernized in 2014 and no longer described in the Statutes.
The Faculty of Agriculture was established in Osijek in 1960 as the High School for Agriculture (Visoka poljoprivredna škola). In 1970 it becomes the Faculty of Agriculture and Food Technology (Poljoprivredno-prehrambeno tehnološki fakultet). It was divided, when the University of Osijek was established in 1975, into two separate institutions, one being the current Faculty. In 1977 it incorporated also the Vinkovci High School for Agriculture (Visoka poljoprivredna škola u Vinkovcima).

The Faculty uses an emblem "composed of stylized initials SF" prescribed as the central part of its general purpose seals. The stylization is composed of red obliquely set rectangles. The flag is vertical, white over blue divided with a hoist-sized diameter circular arc, the imaginary circle containing the Faculty emblem encirciled with the blue inscription of the Faculty name and beaneth it in the blue field the white three-lined inscription of the University name.
The study of mechanical engineering started in Slavonski Brod as the High School affiliated to the Faculty of Mechanical Engineering and Naval Architecture in Zagreb in 1962. It eventually became the Faculty and constituent units of the Osijek University in 1979.

The study of physics started in Osijek in 1958 as dislocated program of the Zagreb Pedagogy School educating the mathematics and physics teachers. Such studies contined in the Osijek Pedagogy Academy established in 1961, while since 1964 it is the study of physics and technology. This was further developed since the Pedagogy Faculty was established in 1977, and in 1989 the study of physics and polithechnics. The study was transfered in 2000 to the recently established Department of Mathematics and renamed to Physics and Technical Culture with Informatics Study, and then since 2004 in the new Department of Physics.

Osijek is proud to have educated two Nobel prize laureates, Lavoslav Ružička (1887-1976, Nobel Prize for Chemistry 1939) and Vladimir Prelog (1906-1998, Nobel Prize for Chemistry 1975), who both attended secondary school in Osijek, where they got inerested in chemistry. However, the systematic stydies of chemistry started in 1961 with the establishment of the Pedagogy Academy. The Chemistry Chair was established with the establishment of the Pedagogy Faculty in 1977. The current Department was established in 2005.

Following the civic traditions of public libraries in Osijek, the Library of the City People Committee of Gornji Grad (Knjižnica Gradskog narodnog odbora Gornji grad)was established in 1947, and that of Donji Grad in 1948. The two joined into the City library of Osijek (Gradska knjižnica Osijek) in 1949. It is since 1961 one of the libraries receiving the legal deposit in Croatia. With the establishment of the University in 1975, it changes the name to the current one and becomes one of its constituent units.

The centre of technology and development (Tehnologijsko-razvojni centar u Osijeku d.o.o.) company was established as a joint venture of the Osijek University, the city and the county, eventually renamed to Tera Tehnopolis Ltd. for new technology, inovation and entrepreneurship promotion.
