In accordance with the law and practice as was also in the previous states, the national minorities in Serbia are not allowed to use flags that are the same as the flags of other states, i.e. they have to differ in details. In Serbia the design of the arms and flags to the national minorities is approved by the Council for National Minorities of Serbia. By 2010, it has approved symbols of Bosniak, Bunyevats, Bulgarian, Croatian, Hungarian, Macedonian, German, Romanian, Russyn, Slovakian , Ukrainian and Walachian national minorities.

The emblem of the Slovak national community in Serbia is the same as the Slovakian state arms encircled with a golden outline. The flag is the same as the Slovak national flag with the golden outlined coat of arms, i.e. the community emblem at the hoist. The vertical flag as the arms properly rotated, and may be longer, up to 1:3.
