[The FAME - Flag and Arms of the Modern Era]

The FAME is a site devoted to the systematic and scientific study of flags and coats of arms. Such symbols often bear strong political and other messages. Inclusion of those symbols here does not mean that the author supports or approves of the ideas they may stand for.

[Supporters' flag 2008] [De facto]

In connection with the European football (soccer) championship of 2008 in Austria and Switzerland, a "supporters' flag" was widely promoted by commercial companies (mostly by various newspapers) being a banner of arms of Croatian, a red and white chequered flag. The design was used with several minor differences. The one shown here contains 5×10 squares, was sold in size 50×100 cm. Similar flag was sold as a car window flag in size ca. 30×45 cm, having 4×6 squares (including newspapers Večernji list logo in the first red square) and another variant having ca. 6×10 squares. Usually each of the variants was accompanied with equally sized Croatian national flag.
Somewhat different variant, being white flag with chequy border of two rows of squares around the edges, ca. 10x20, with blue 3D effect letters reading HRVATSKA over the top chequy border and CROATIA over the bottom; sometimes including the Croatian football association logo in the middle and sometimes (more othen) the middle being left blank.
