Austria - Second Republic, 1945 - 1984
Republik Österreich
After the World War II the Allies re-established the Austrian Republic in its previous territory. At first divded into four occupational zones, it gradually was regaining all its statehood functions, and accordingly the flags were established, first civil, then state and military flags and ensign.

With the re-establishemnt of the Republic of Austria after the German occupation, on 1 May 1945 was established the red-whitre-red triband again as the flag of the Republic. This was initially used as state flag and ensign and also in the army and on military vessels on Danube, but these functions were gradually replaced with other flags.

The state flag (service flag) was prescribed with the coat of arms in the middle. The 1919 coat of arms was re-introduced with adition of the broaken chains on the tallons. While the artistical layout of the coat of arms was officially slightly changed in 1984, the 1945 version drawn by G.E. Krahl is still considered valid and acceptable.

The constitutional changes in 1955 enabled Austria to maintain military vessels on Danube, however, the flags for these were not determined until 1976. Prior to that presumably the simple tribands or the service flags were being used. The flag regulations for the military boats were determined on 10 August 1976, defining the ensign as the triband with a white shield overall off-set to hoist containing the coat of arms. The size of the ensign is prescribed to 100×150 cm.

The 1976 established jack is, as traditional in Austria, of the same deisgn as the ensign, but of a different ratio. The size prescribed is 80×100 cm.

The flag for generals is white rectangle with the state coat of arms in the middle and red and white flammulets. The size of the flag is 100 × 114 cm.

The flag (standard) of the ministers is a square Austrian triband with the coat of arms set in a white shield in the middle, and bordered with red and white flammulets. The prescribed size is 100 × 100 cm.

The group commander pennant is swallow-tailed triangular pennant with the coat of arms set in a white shield in the middle in size of 65 × 145 cm with indentation of 65 cm.

The triband pennant is prescribed in length of 250 cm with the width at the hoist as 20 cm.
