The coat of arms of Sežana is gules a bent tree issuant from a pot sable. The basic design was adopted after a public concourse in late 1970's, the shape of the tree was actually a map of the community at the time. The tree is bent by a wind typical for the region (kraška bura). The design adopted in 2006 is only slight modernization of the original design adopted in 1985, including the fonts. The flag that was introduced in use in late 1990's, was amended accordingly.

The emblem of Sežana was adopted in 1985 in shape that was not meant to represent a shield. The colouring of this emblem was variating, among other silver on purple background and dark red on white. On the registration plates it was already since 1993 used in the standard shield shape, black on the red shield. A monocoloured dark red table flag with the emblem in the middle was recorded in use, after the Statutes of 1999 provided for the flag adoption.

The Decision as printed in the official gazette does not contain the graphical attachment, that determines geometircal details of the flag. Drawing according to:
Stanič, Jakopič: "Osnove heraldike in istovetnostni simboli slovenskih občin", Lečnik, Ljubljana, 2005, pp. 255-256

The coat of arms of Slovenj Gradec is based on the seal of the city from early 14th century, picturing in a blue shield the white city entrance with two watch towers. The flag is based on the colours from the coat of arms, blue-withe-blue triband with the central stripe being of the double width of each of the edge stripes and with the coat of arms set in the middle.

The coat of arms and the flag adopted in 1984 included above the shield inscription Občina Slovenska Bistrica according to the text of the Decision, but both coats of arms and flags without inscription are apparently in use. It seems that in early 1990's the graphical layout of the coat of arms was slightly changed into design shown here, but the documentation is unknown. The 1995 Statutes still refer to the 1984 decision as valid one regarding the symbols.
