The FAME is a site devoted to the systematic and scientific study of flags and coats of arms. Such symbols often bear strong political and other messages. Inclusion of those symbols here does not mean that the author supports or approves of the ideas they may stand for. |

In Yugoslavia there were 5 constituent nations (i.e. 6 since 1974, when Bosnian Muslims gained status of a constituent nation). These were usually called 'nations' (narodi), while other ethnical groups were called 'nationalities' (narodnosti). Furthermore, one could consider himself of no nationality, of Yugoslav nationality or by regional ethnicity.
The ethnical minorities (i.e. 'nationalities') had right to display their national flag defaced with red star, usually bordered golden. Even if every single nationality had theoretical right to use their flag, here are presented all those that were ever reported in use. This is rather a long list and most of them were not used extensively, apart from three most numerous nationalities - Albanians, Italians and Hungarians - these were used regularly in areas where the population was considerable.
Although, it was not considered nationality, Muslims in Kosovo and Macedonia reportedly used a flag. It is possible that this was erroneously reported for the flag of Turks, though.

The flag is red with black double headed eagle and with a yellow bordered star in canton. It was used mainly by Albanians in Kosovo and Macedonia. Some sources erroneously designate this flag as the Kosovo flag. The flag of contemporary PDR Albania, that was very similar, with the star set above the eagle instead in canton, was also reportedly used, as well as the starless flag, too, both unofficially, of course, especially in latter years. The flags with stars are reportedly in use (obviously as relicts from an earlier time and for the lack of other flags) even in late 1990's and even latter.

A flag reportedly in use by Muslims in Kosovo and Macedonia is red with white crescent and yellow bordered star in canton. It is not clear weather this is incorrect flag for Turks, though these Muslims were of Slavic origin, similarly as the Bosnian Muslims.
