The FAME is a site devoted to the systematic and scientific study of flags and coats of arms. Such symbols often bear strong political and other messages. Inclusion of those symbols here does not mean that the author supports or approves of the ideas they may stand for. |
After the World War I the Kingdoms of Serbia and Montenegro united under Karašorševię dynasty and the South-Slavic countries that just released themselves of Hapsburg rule were joined the new Kingdom, first named after the three nations that were then considered separate - Serbs, Croats and Slovenes and letter renamed to Yugoslavia. The Yugoslav Kingdom broke down and was dissolved in 1941 after Axis occupation, but the communist lead partisan struggle under Marshal Tito reunited land and formed a federated republic after the World War II. In early 1990's the federation dissolved followed by bloody wars, and the two remaining republics retained the Yugoslav name and symbols, though this state was not formally recognized by world community until the end of the Millennium. Finally in 2002 the state was reorganized as the new state union of Serbia and Montenegro, and the Yugoslav name was left to the history.
