The pennant introduced in 1786 as Cornette eventually renamed Commodore’s Pennant was retained in 1880, but a new flag was introduced as the Seniority Pennant. The design of this was equal to the Commodore’s Pennant, the difference was only in the way these flags would be attached to the hoist. White the Commodore’s Pennant would be attached the usual way, the Seniority Pennant was attached hanging on a string from a crossbar.
