The FAME is a site devoted to the systematic and scientific study of flags and coats of arms. Such symbols often bear strong political and other messages. Inclusion of those symbols here does not mean that the author supports or approves of the ideas they may stand for. |
Due to the unsolved constitutional issue of the name of this canton, the federal bodies as well as the international community name this canton according to its number - Canton 10.
Capital: Livno

The flag of Herzeg-Bosnia is basically a variation of the Croatian flag. It differs only in the coat of arms, which is itself only a slight variation of the Croatian coat of arms, differing in the shape of the shield, and having a golden triple wattle ornament in chief.
The Canton of Herzeg-Bosnia adopted a flag equal to the flag used by the decomposed Croatian Republic of Herzeg-Bosnia, in spite of the fact that it represents only one ethnical group of the Canton. The Constitutional Court decided that it is not acceptable, along with the decision on the unconstitutionality of the name of the Canton (due to the fact that it in no part includes any territory of Herzegovina). A new name and new symbols are to be devised, but until May 2000 no moves were done in that direction by local authorities.
