The FAME is a site devoted to the systematic and scientific study of flags and coats of arms. Such symbols often bear strong political and other messages. Inclusion of those symbols here does not mean that the author supports or approves of the ideas they may stand for. |

Republic of Croatia is administratively divided in 20 counties (županije, sg. županija), sometimes also called 'regions'. Each of the counties is further divided in several municipalities (općine, sg. općina) and cities (gradovi, sg. grad). There are over 400 municipalities and over a hundred cities altogether. Former 21st County, the City of Zagreb was joined with County of Zagreb in 1995, and in 1997 was given special status. The counties are here listed in order as in the official gazette.
The official names of the counties until 1997 had word Županija in front of the name, and now it is the last element, e.g. Županija Varaždinska is now Varaždinska županija.
The regulations on the local flags in Croatia require that a county flag should be made of a field using two colours and with the county coat of arms in the middle or offset towards hoist.
